(itunes: N'E: On Flattery and Frustration)

Finishing up vocals in the recording studio. The Mix and Master will be done tomorrow. I'll be heading to Colorado and Massachusetts within the next week and a half. If you're interested in watching some Nor'easter videos in the studio you can check out our vimeo page.

As far as color balancing goes. From what I can tell, the shadows look to have a little green in them, while the lighter areas have some magenta in them. What types of light are you shooting in? Definitely play around with your white balance. We talked about auto being a good setting, but try and see if another one would be more appropriate for the lighting you are using.
Also, lighting is key. Indoor, tungsten light is not always the most interesting. Something to keep in mind. I do like these portraits though, I think the dramatic lighting works nicely and your model is a really great model.
Make sure that your computer is calibrated correctly. Aside from buying a calibrator, go into your display settings, and make sure that your monitor is set for Adobe RGB 1998.
I will send you my handout for selecting white and black points, and hopefully that will help some. Otherwise, color balancing just comes with practice.
